Norton is a robot built by Norton Computing in 1982. Norton was one of the first products to be completed by the startup company.
He was built as an evaluation of the founder's skill, and to work as a repair technician with the company. Norton serves as an example of one of the first successful robots. In 1990, Norton Computing got acquired by a larger entity and Norton's role shifted over time from general repair to more anti-malware related tasks. Today, Norton is still actively maintained by the company.
Work history
Norton was built on April 14th, 1982 in the founder's garage. As an early robot, he was limited in some capabilities such as speech (which was added later) but displayed full proficiency in his job tasks which included service and repair of various computers, robots and electronic accessories.
After Norton Computing was acquired by the larger entity in 1990, Norton received several upgrades including the gift of speech. His job tasks also shifted away from general repair and he was told to focus more on security and antivirus solutions. He worked with another robot who was built by the larger entity.[1]
In 1998, Norton became the only robot working at the company.
In 1999, Norton started contracted work with The Corporation to help debug and perform routine scans on their robots. He also performed general repairs. This contract ended in 2007.
Since then, Norton has gone back to his usual anti-malware work.
Rivalry with McAfee
McAfee and Norton shared a complicated relationship until 1993 when McAfee stole a large client database from Norton which resulted in Norton being reprimanded by his company. Since then, Norton can't stand to be around McAfee and has declared a rivalry. McAfee has been spotted trying to visit Norton outside of his workplace several times. This has resulted in physical altercations.
Reunion with Sam
Norton played a pivotal role in Sam Whistler's 2016 revelation. Sam began to see Norton shortly after he was forcibly retired in 2014, at a time when his Hauntings began again.
Personal relationships
Norton first met his sister Rion in 2011.
Norton shared a familial bond with his creator, like father/son.
Norton does not get along with coworkers.
Norton married Sam Whistler in 2018.
